Looking for Opinions

I am going to try something new here.

I have initialized the comment functionality on this blog so each new post can have comments made by the readers of this blog.

Here is a situation that has recently happened and I want to get some feedback.

A recruiter I work with let me know of a candidate they submitted to a client company against an opening they had been recruiting on.

The candidate did not do so well in the interview but let the recruiter know that the company had asked him for a referral of someone who was more suitable for the position. The candidate gave two names.

The recruiter then followed this up with the client and let them know that he expected to be given credit for these two referrals since they came from his candidate.

The client said no way. It is part of our recruiting process to get referrals from everyone we interview.

The recruiter said he understood this but that the candidate was only interviewing because of the work he did.

That is the story in a nutshell. Personally, I have very strong feelings on this and I would like to know your feelings on it as well.

Once I get some feedback, I will let you know how this was handled and what the outcome was. Given the readership of this blog, I think the response (hopefully there will be some) will be interesting.
