SkyWater Hires Veteran Technologist Percy Gilbert as SVP of Technology

Published on April 16

SkyWater Technology has appointed Dr. Percy Gilbert as Senior Vice President of Technology. He will oversee engineering during a period of expansion that includes the pending acquisition of Infineon's Fab 25 in Austin (Yahoo Finance).

Gilbert brings decades of experience from leadership roles at IBM, NXP, and most recently Intel. At IBM, he led process development from 65nm down to 22nm and managed large R&D partnerships. At NXP, he drove new product development across edge processing and automotive applications (LinkedIn).

This hire comes as SkyWater shifts from a single fab model to a multi-site operation. Gilbert’s background in scaling engineering teams and bringing advanced processes to production suggests SkyWater is aiming to mature quickly into a more competitive foundry partner (SkyWater Press Release).

His move also mirrors a broader trend in the industry. As Intel restructures and tightens focus, cutting costs and reorganizing operations in 2024 and 2025, experienced technologists are stepping into roles at smaller or more agile players (Reuters). SkyWater’s gain could be part of Intel’s long tail of leadership exits.

Gilbert holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue and holds multiple patents.
