Job Mission

ASML’s Employee Relations office is a new global Center of Expertise, currently being built up,  which aims to help champion ASML’s values for a safe, ethical, and inclusive workplace and ensure consistent and fair treatment. Working closely with already established local ER teams across the globe as well as our Ethics Office, the focus will be on providing impartial consultation, advice and expertise to Employees, Leaders and Human Resources regarding Employee Relations. This can be for example related to workplace collaboration or help solve (potential) disputes regarding fair & equal treatment. Purpose is to foster positive relationships between employees, managers and the organization and establish a Workplace that Works for All.   

In the context of the new Global CoE, we have position open for a senior Employee Relations advisor who can act as Global ER Expert. As part of the small Global ER team, you will help setting up the new function and related activities from a Global perspective. Since we are still in the phase of scoping and shaping the new Global function, initial activities will be a mix of learning-by-doing from activities that are already brought to ER combined with scoping & shaping the new Global function in close collaboration with various stakeholders throughout the organization. We are seeking for a personable, adaptable, impartial, credible and seasoned ER/HR professional who flourishes in an undefined, ambiguous playing field. You are flexible and versatile to take on different activities: from policy & process design to case resolution, and from employee listening to skill building delivery.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Work with Global and local ER colleagues to bring the new Global ER function to live. Provide thought leadership in the field of ER. Develop integrated global ER philosophies, policies, processes and interventions in collaboration with colleagues from related global and local expertise areas and take a leading role in deployment.  

  • Offer ER consultation and counseling to senior Employees, Leaders and HR. This includes involvement in individual as well as team related ER matters. Perform proper triage, conduct independent assessment and provide impartial yet authoritative advice to enable the implementation of sustainable, embedded solutions. Give unsolicited feedback that (indirectly) leads to desired behavioral and cultural changes.

  • Participate in workplace assessments in more complex cases. Objectively, thoroughly and empathetically investigate sensitive employee relations concerns including but not limited to allegations of discrimination, bullying, and other related issues. Objectively report out on findings within applicable legal and other relevant professional frameworks. Discreetly handle sensitive and/or private information.

  • From professional expertise and ER related observations, drive improvements and interventions that foster positive relationships. This includes feedback on (the deployment of) people policies, practices and tools, both in and outside HR. Drive awareness and skill building in the field of Global ER in an integrated, embedded way.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and/or experience) in Human Resources or related field.

  • At least 10+ years work experience in HR with extensive involvement in employee relations matters. Proven credible sparring partner for senior employees/ leaders and senior HR colleagues in the field of workplace behavior.

  • Thorough understanding of People-, HR- and compliance related (ASML) policies and practices as well as employment law and other regulations in order to provide guidance or clarification on ER matters.

  • Experience in developing and implementing people related philosophies, policies, procedures and related deployment materials (communication, onboarding, skills building etc).

  • Thorough understanding of conflict resolution techniques, diffusing tension and/or employee engagement techniques is considered as an advantage.

Able to quickly build high levels of professional credibility and trust. Adapts approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to remain impartial, tactful, calm, persuasive and maintain confidentiality in controversial and/or confrontational situations. Thorough understanding and proven abilities in the field of conflict resolution to handle these situations effectively, with a minimum of noise. Swiftly addresses ineffective behaviors and gives guidance on how to handle these situations more successfully.

  • Negotiates skillfully. Uses compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others, without the other party feeling, harmed or frustrated. Achieves a good balance between defending own position and adapting to others' needs.

  • Results driven: demonstrates ownership and accountability and delivers on commitments with a sense of urgency, accuracy, and attention to detail. Integrates analysis, experience, and other inputs to make effective decisions. Accepts workable decisions and also seeks better alternatives. Installs ownership and accountability in others.  

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and evaluate complex issues, and converging it to a comprehensive report-out with the right balance between depth and concreteness. Sees interdependencies and the systematic elements of issues to develop sustainable solutions.

  • High flexibility and agility to work in a fast-paced, ambitious, matrixed work environment. Comfortable with ambiguity and risk. Can deal with grey areas, changing scope, pressure and deadlines.

Other Information

This position is located in Veldhoven (The Netherlands). It requires onsite presence to attend in-person conversations, events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation. A flexible workplace arrangement is available for remote work up to two days a week. The role can require international travel for cross-country alignment or  for complex cases when involvement from a Global perspective is required and justified.
