Semtech’s NPI (New Product Introduction) Product Engineering Team is a group of passionate and talented engineers that are the central engineering function for the development of new products, involved from product concept to end of-life, working with all internal cross-functional teams. The team is responsible for test coverage, yield optimisation, product characterisation, cost of product optimisation, project logistics, and transfer to full volume manufacturing. We enable the delivery to our customers of a fully capable, quality product that meets our business objectives and we have a versatile team of individuals that make this a reality.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Product Engineering, you will be responsible for managing the NPI Product Engineering functions primarily based in the UK.
Your role is instrumental in ensuring smooth implementation for new products from product definition through Final Production release, into scalable volume production. You’ll provide the NPI organisation a focus on product compliance to specification, capability to meet Datasheet parameters, and cost of product to meet business requirements. You should be comfortable with regular travel to the locations where your teams are located and work as a catalyst for change and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Develop, coach and mentor your direct reports and ensure that they have consistent development plans, addressing their needs, issues, and suggestions in an appropriate manner.
Encourage open and direct communication within your Product Engineering team by being accessible and approachable for them.
Drive the team to foster a collaborative spirit at all levels and build strong, peer level relationships with Test, Design, Validation, Marketing, Quality, Reliability, Applications and Operations organisations.
Drive a ‘Can do’ culture with a focus on quality and execution.
Align company and divisional goals to departmental goals and objectives and monitor progress towards completion.
Through your team strive to implement continuous process improvement to improve efficiency and quality.
Recruit and retain best-in-class engineers.
Understand product roadmaps and work pro-actively with the Design to execute NPI schedules to meet time to market.
Be an active participation in gate reviews and focus on business success.
Lead the UK SIP Product Engineering Team and be accountable for New Product Introduction to ensure:
Sufficient priority is placed on manufacturability during the design stage to allow for smooth device volume ramp during product introduction.
Requirements for new products are defined and characterised and manufacturing capability is demonstrated.
Testability and test coverage is thoroughly reviewed and implemented.
Cost of Goods / Cost of Product are optimised through NPI and into product maturity.
Reliability qualification plans are adequately defined.
Quality is the focus, and RMA analysis and corrective actions are supported in a timely manner.
The transfer to high volume production is seamless and our Operations and Off-shore Teams are well supported.
Minimum Qualifications:
5-10 years working in an R&D environment, specifically Product and Test Engineering.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering management.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to absorb, assimilate, prioritise, and pass on the key issues to the team or upper management.
Strong leadership and communication skills in influencing peers and management.
Ability to understand and assimilate changing situations, adjust strategy, and effectively drive the appropriate change.
Ability to prioritise and optimise for quality, cost, and speed of delivery.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills within and across departments.
Ability to work in a high pressure, fast paced environment and make decisions in a timely and efficient manner.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
